The medical profession is guided by two complimentary needs...
The need to move forward in how we diagnose and prognose medical events. Innovations in medical technology continue to expand our understanding of the “what”, “why”, and “how” of medical illness and treatment. The science disciplines that create the vast array of mechanical, biological, and chemical modalities, combined with the arts of emotional intelligence and emotional labor, are improving the wellbeing of patients across multiple medical fields. These results compel medical facilities to explore new pathways to care for patients, their families, and their medical allies.
The need to stay aligned with the just cause, mission, and values of wholehearted medical practice. Principles such as beneficence, nonmaleficence, autonomy, and justice are the bedrock on which our modern medical profession is built. The “who” of medical illness and treatment is where diagnosis and prognosis begin. Each person we care for is similar as we are of the same species, and each person we care for is different in their approach and acceptance to their unique medical situation. These realizations compel medical facilities to affirm these principles as they care for patients, their families, and their medical allies.
